mask options

Take control of your edits with enhanced masking tools. Create a mask using Photoshop’s powerful selection tools and bring it straight into any Nik Collection plugin. Alternatively, start editing in Nik and import masks using the new button inside the Local Adjustments panel.

Better yet, masks and local adjustments now transfer seamlessly between plugins. For example, if you create a mask in Nik Color Efex and then switch to Nik Silver Efex, it will be ready for use in the Local Adjustments panel. With Nik Collection 8, your masks stay with you every step of the way, whether they originate from Photoshop or a Nik plugin.

Just like you can hit the Quick Export button to produce a JPEG or TIFF, you can now send your edit directly as a layer to Photoshop while you continue working. These layers are created when you hit Apply and return to Photoshop.

Returning to Photoshop is now supercharged

We’ve simplified options for when you take your image back into Photoshop. You can choose to turn your edits into a Smart Object, apply them as the current layer, create a new layer, or as a new layer with a mask. This makes it much easier to work with your image. Previously, the brush mask came with some restrictions; version 8 gives you a regular Photoshop layer, with all of the potential to make refinements non-destructively.
